The Wise One

 Hiawatha

Known as "the wise one" he sits atop the falls overlooking the park giant and out of times past.
A story of the life of an Ojibwe warrior named Hiawatha and his love, Minnehaha,
which means “laughing waters”  for which this place is named.

See * Hiawatha; a poem, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Plain and Simple

While listening to all the chatter staring out at the last vestiges of winter, I realize that sometimes there isn't anything better than a cup A jo at a tiny family restaurant.  I may love my latte's but this cup really hit the spot!

Under Lock and Key

My Home Longmont, Co 2010

We all have them...keys to our lives, our homes, our cars and our work...keys to locks that protect us, and keep us from harm, but remember not to lock yourself up too tight or no one can get in...
Where lies the key to your heart, and soul?

Dancing Butterflies

Bathtime

Amy's Garden Arvada, Co 2010

Bathtime for these birds is just short of luxury...In a setting that would rival the "Secret Garden"  With all the beautiful energy of the stones in the bath, surrounded by greenery and flowers.
I wish that this was a me sized tub that I could relax in!

Check Mate

The longest Game. Frederick, Co 2009

Strategy in motion...This game has held my attention as long as I can remember. I was constantly playing with the stone chess set at my Aunt Linda's house..It was the beginning of a life-long love.
It wasn't even about the game when I was younger. It was something in the pieces...The way they felt cold in my hand, chiseled edges pressing into my palm. I love the pieces, the symmetry of the board, and the place it takes my mind.

A bugs life

Butterfly Pavillion Westminster, Co 2011

Its nice to see a well cared for insect and bug exhibit! Its warm and beautiful and has a range of interesting things to look at. I really think bugs are cool!! They are often overlooked but really play a major role in our well being. Each thing on earth has its purpose and I find beauty in these little helpers.

Life Juice

Abandoned Research Lab, Minneapolis, MN

Its in our bones and in our veins, yet we are still in the business of spilling it to the ground.
I wonder what cures or answers lie in these slides...long forgotten in a lab left in shambles.
I wonder how many research centers lie covered in dust while we make war...

Natural Randomness

Eldorado Springs, CO 2010

Just happened upon these feathers as I walked up the stream one day. I love finding the patterns of things. Some days I think there is a reason for everything. Other days I find things like this and I wonder if things are really just random.Perhaps we just like to find hidden meanings in things.
Either way im glad that I came across this "totally random" find.

Smiling Orchids

Botanic Gardens Denver, CO 2011

The damp sweet smell greets you as you first walk into the room, an oasis in the middle of the city.
The vibrant colors, lush green and the sound of moving water. Around every corner you find another blossom clinging by a thread to its long graceful stem. I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and smile =)

The Happy Turtle

Grandmother's Garden 2009 Arvada, Co
This is one of the many statues and trinkets in my grandmothers garden. This lil guy really made me smile and it reminds me that spring is right around the corner. I now have a turtle of my own to put in the garden this spring thanks to her, and I'm looking forward to finding a great little place for it to go like this one.

Through the Lens

Wisconsin Central High Bridge, Stillwater, MN

I'm on this old bridge and I think of the history. I think of my history with it.
I stand on this bridge...the wind whips my hair all around me like a halo.
Its always been somewhere that I just end up at. I think it finds me more than I it.

Red Hot Firetruck Madness

Easter Sunday 2009 Luck, WI

The old fire truck...This glorious little relic sits now retired but not forgotten...It smells like dirt and overheated vinyl with just a touch of mold...this thing is perfect. I can almost imagine the firefighters climbing into it and rushing off to save the day. Its memories somehow seem embedded in every stitch and seam. I sat inside imagining that someones loved one was saved by someone sitting where I sit now and I feel connected somehow, connected with the idea of heroism in everyday situations. I appreciate everyday heroes...
